Winter Solstice By The Sea

Image
Today we celebrated the winter solstice by spending some time on the beach, whilst visiting family in Northumberland.  It was freezing cold, but that didn't seem to matter as the boys ran around, climbed on the rocks and searched for interesting things on the sand that the tide had left behind.  I also managed to forget about the cold whilst taking photos of them and the beautiful surroundings. Watching the waves crashing together, the seagulls flying overhead and seeing the boys so happy made this special day even more special.

Christmas Preparations

Image
We've had a very busy, but lovely, week making preparations for Christmas.  On 1st December, we always put up the decorations.  This has been our family tradition since the boys were very small.  So we put on our favourite Christmas songs and had a lovely time making the house look magical. The result - two very happy boys!

My Amazing Time In London

Image
I arrived home late last night from an amazing three days in London.  I thought travelling to such a big city on my own would have been really scary, but it really wasn't.  It was a perfect weekend and i'm so thankful that I faced my fears and followed my intuition.  It's a trip i'll never forget. I arrived in London on Friday morning and took the rather long walk from Kings Cross to the Strand.  I was pulling my suitcase in one hand, following google maps on my phone in my other hand, whilst accidentally hitting everyone that I walked past with my yoga mat.  I did finally make it to my hotel around lunchtime.   After a quick bite to eat, it was time to explore.  I picked up my camera and off I went.  I walked to Waterloo bridge which was just around the corner and took a few photos from there.   Then I walked to Trafalgar Square. And then I decided to find Covent Garden.  I managed to find Neals ...

A Lovely Family Day Out

Image
Yesterday we took the boys to a Birds of Prey Centre for the day.  It rained for most of the day, and was very cold, but that didn't stop us having a really lovely time.  Luke, in particular, really loves animals and for day trips he always chooses something animal related.  This was a late birthday present for him, as we didn't have chance to go nearer his birthday.   We watched three shows and had the chance to hold two of the owls, which Luke really loved doing.  We had a good look around and took lots of photo's.  Dylan really enjoyed it too and loved looking at the birds and learning about them, and eating in the cafe as he's always hungry.  It was a lovely day and i'd love to share some of the photos that we took. The day was even more special as i'm going to London in a few days and, although it's only for 3 nights, i'll really miss my boys.  It was lovely to do this with them before I go.   After ...

Photography and Nature

Image
Sometimes in the chaos of everyday life, there is nothing more relaxing than a trip out into nature.  The fresh air and peace and quiet are very good for the soul, and something that I find essential in life.  Combining that with my passion for photography makes it even more enjoyable.   So this last week, me and Luke have taken many trips outdoors, to the park, the woods and our favourite nature reserve.  I took my camera along and we both enjoyed taking lots of photos of trees, birds and other creatures.  It's a lovely way to connect with your children, and Luke really enjoys carrying the camera around, taking pictures of everything he sees.  It's also lovely when you have a passion that you can share with your child, and I really hope his love of photography will last.   For myself, after yoga I think being outdoors comes a close second in nourishing my soul and calming my mind.  I always feel so much happier after a lovely long walk in the...
