Raw Breakfasts
When I first started juicing and then eating mostly raw, I found that changing what I had for breakfast was one of the easiest steps to becoming healthier and following this king of lifestyle. Starting your day this way gives you so much energy and makes you feel so alive. It gives you the momentum to keep going and eat healthier for the whole day and eventually it becomes your way of life.
So I wanted to share two ideas for a healthy start to the day - green juices/smoothies and raw muesli.
Green Smoothie
This is usually my first choice of breakfast every morning. I try to vary the fruits and vegetables I put in each day and I love to experiment.
This is my recipe from this morning (it made just enough for me and the boys)
6 Apples
2 Pears
2 Carrots
Handful of Spinach
Handful of Kale
Small Handful of Parsley
2 Inch Piece of Cucumber
Small Piece of Ginger
1 Avocado
Tsp Dried Wheatgrass
Tsp Spirulina
Juice the apples, pears, carrots, spinach, kale, parsley, cucumber and ginger, then put into a blender with the avocado, wheatgrass and spirulina.
You can vary it by adding different fruits such as pineapple or mango, blending with a banana instead of avocado, add other greens such as broccoli or celery and adding a little manuka honey into the blender.
This is one of the most nutritious ways you can start your day, and it tastes delicious.
Raw Muesli
This is another recipe which I like to change and experiment with. I like to add different fruits, nuts, seeds and dried fruits. I either serve it with homemade nut milk or water from soaking dried goji berries in so it's nice and sweet.
This was a nice simple breakfast I made.
4 Strawberries
1 Apple
6 Dried Dates
Handful of Sunflower Seeds
Chop up the fruits and mix with the seeds, then add nut milk.
This recipe was made with cashew nut milk. Here's how to make it.
Cashew Nut Milk
Cup of Cashews
2 Cups of Filtered Water
Honey
Blend all the ingredients, then strain through a sieve or nut milk bag. Again you can vary this recipe by adding some strawberries to make strawberry milk, or some raw cacao powder to make chocolate milk.
It's so much fun experimenting with these delicious and super healthy foods and drinks. Along with the juice therapy course that i'm doing, i'm also taking a course in raw foods so i'm hoping to share lots of recipes and ideas with you here.
So if you're thinking of trying out juicing or experimenting with raw foods, i recommend starting with breakfast and have fun experimenting with new ideas.
Hi Kelly, I have had this raw muesli, using whichever fruits we have for breakfast for the last three last mornings, it is such a lovely way to start the day. I have been soaking sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds to add to the fruit. Thanks for sharing x
